BIRD (Board for Integrated Rural Development) was founded in 2007 in Talbaria village, Lohagara, Narail — and has grown into one of Bangladesh's most innovative grassroots development organisations.
We believe that real development is integrated. It addresses livelihoods and climate together. It honours culture while embracing technology. It sees the farmer, the widow, the orphan, the elder — and responds with dignity, not charity.
From floating gardens in flood-prone areas to AI-enabled healthcare, from folk music preservation to digital banking access, BIRD's model is holistic, evidence-based, and locally rooted.

From a humble beginning in Talbaria village in 2007, BIRD has grown into one of Bangladesh's most innovative integrated rural development organisations — guided always by the principle that no one should be left behind.

2007 — Foundation
BIRD is Born in Talbaria
BIRD is founded in Talbaria village, Lohagara, Narail by a group of committed young people with a vision for integrated rural change. Registered with the Dept. of Youth Development (JUA-76/2008).
2009 — Expansion
Social Welfare Registration & First Major Projects
Registered with the Dept. of Social Welfare (Narail-349/2009). First community programs in livelihoods and awareness launched across Lohagara Upazila.
2012 — First Annual Report
Institutional Maturity & Donor Partnerships
BIRD publishes its first Annual Report and formalises partnerships with Japan Water Forum and GlobalGiving USA. Programs in water, sanitation, and IGA scale significantly.
2018–2022 — Innovation Wave
NEST, Mela, Floating Gardens & Digital Programs
BIRD launches NEST Training Center, Village Mela enterprise initiative, floating garden climate-adaptation projects, and begins digital literacy programming for rural youth.
2024 — Ecosystem Era
Mati Bank, BIRD Hospital & 25-Year Vision Launched
BIRD launches the Mati Community Bank (Bank Asia PLC agent banking), BIRD Hospital initiative, and articulates its Vision 2050 — a 25-year roadmap for a resilient rural Bangladesh.

Livelihood, environment, and community resilience — BIRD's flagship pillar empowers rural communities to sustain themselves through climate-smart agriculture, income generation, and environmental stewardship. We don't create dependency; we build capacity.
